‘We didn’t deserve anything’

After all the positives of Saturday’s win at the Ricoh we had to endure last night all the negatives that surround the club and the players. When the team was announced there were plenty of looks of amazement amongst the City support.

But for 45 minutes the Sky Blues were coasting, playing good passing football and creating chances but once Morecambe’s first goal went in that was it.

With no players on the bench to change the game we were treated in the second half to the not unusual sight of City players being second best to everything and that is giving them the benefit of the doubt.

For all of the second half we were put through ‘route one’ football and never looked like getting near to a goal, but credit Morecambe who kept the ball on the ground. Their close passing led to a good second goal with City’s defence static and was no more than they deserved.

We left the Globe arena for our long journey home with just a shrug of the shoulders because we have been through this kind of defeat so many times before and for some reason were not surprised at what we had just watched.
