Coventry City travel to Watford on Saturday with both teams having been boosted by midweek wins.

New Vicarage Road manager Brendan Rodgers gained his first victory as a boss when Norwich were defeated 2-1 on Wednesday night.

‘To get the win is vital for the situation we’re in,’ said Rodgers after his side moved up to 19th in the Championship table.

‘It’s probably the worst we’ve played since I’ve come in but we’ve had difficult games and I’m delighted.’

Rodgers may not be a household name but he has been building a formidable reputation as a coach in recent years, firstly with Reading and then at Chelsea, where he was in charge of the reserve team.

Tommy Smith netted his 11th goal of the season to down Norwich and Thursday’s papers have linked the striker with a move to Stoke City.

‘Tommy Smith is inspirational, which is why I’ve made him captain,’ commented Rodgers after the game.

The in-form forward is a best priced 6/1 to score the 1st goal at the weekend.
