Coventry City were more than a match for promotion hopefuls Cardiff City on Tuesday night before being undone by a late sucker punch from the visitors.

A controversial early penalty had given the Bluebirds the lead and for a period it seemed as though they would win at a canter but City clawed their way back into proceedings and were on top from the moment Gary McSheffrey netted a superb equaliser.

The Sky Blues rearguard superbly marshalled Craig Bellamy and his attacking colleagues to the extent that the Manchester City loanee was substituted but Aidy Boothroyd afterwards was right to lament a lack of goalscoring opportunities at the other end.

Speaking to BBC CWR, the City boss also felt his side gave Cardiff too much respect at times but was hugely upbeat about the progress that his men have made in their 12 league games to date.
