Transfers: Sky Blues win one and lose one

Coventry City replaced Jay Tabb late in the week with the signing of David Bell from Norwich City, just months after missing out on the player when he opted for Carrow Road upon leaving Luton Town.

“He approached me last week and asked about the situation, saying he wanted to move back closer to home with his young family,’ said new Norwich boss Bryan Gunn, explaining why the player wanted to leave, just months into his contract.

Tabb also cited ‘homesickness’ as one of the factors in his decision not to sign a new deal at the Ricoh Arena and join Reading instead.

He, of course, was just months away from the end of his Coventry deal and in a position of power but Bell, having made it clear he wanted to leave as well, could have been fairly confident that Norwich would not try and make him stay.

Whether an offer from Manchester United for either player have been turned down on homesickness grounds remains unclear, but one thing that holds true is that players hold virtually all the aces in transfers today.

The Sky Blues’ task is to make sure that they are a more attractive option to potential signings, more often than their own players are lured elsewhere.
