The transfer window opens in 19 days and Vital Coventry is bringing you a new rumour everyday concerning Sky Blues past and present or potential new signings.

13th December: James Scowcroft was a solid presence in the team during his one and only season with Coventry City.

Most often playing on the right-hand side of a 4-2-4 formation under Micky Adams, he provided a good contrast to the skills of Gary McSheffrey on the opposite flank.

The following summer, both players were sold on and although the McSheffrey deal attracted most of the attention, City missed Scowcroft in the campaign that followed.

Now 33-years-old, the former Ipswich Town and Leicester City man has continued to be an effective presence at Championship level.

Currently at Crystal Palace his contract expires in the summer and he admits to facing an uncertain future.

On the way back from a hamstring injury, Scowcroft exclusively told the Croydon Advertiser: “I`ve got a contract until the end of the season and I know the club needs to reduce the size of the squad, but the main thing I`ve got to do is get fit and if the manager wants to use me then I`ll make sure I`m ready.

“I think Crystal Palace is an excellent club to be at and it would be hard to find another club like Palace. I don`t want to put myself under that unnecessary pressure.

‘I still think I can do a good job – so I just have to go out with the right attitude and see what comes from there really.

‘But of course it is nice to be appreciated, but at the moment I`m just concentrating on getting fit.”
