Time For City To Shuffle The Pack?

Having pushed themselves into the top-half of League One with an impressive unbeaten run, Coventry City will look to begin another sequence of good results when they entertain Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic at the Ricoh Arena in the coming week.

With the busy festive period and participation in both the FA Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, the Sky Blues have played eight times between the win at Doncaster on 15th December and Sunday’s defeat at Carlisle.

Mark Robins has kept a very settled side during that time but, when given their chance, Conor Thomas and Stephen Elliott have impressed and must be close to gaining a start on Wednesday night having both earned praise from the manager in recent weeks. The inclusion of Thomas, in particular, may be in Robins’ thinking given his frustration at City’s decision making on Sunday.

On the flip side, the boss will surely be keen to offload one or two of those players who haven’t forced their way into his plans in order to pursue potential signings.

Midweek opponents Tranmere continue to defy the pre-season odds by maintaining their push for automatic promotion. Ronnie Moore’s side were 2-0 winners against Crawley at the weekend after which the Prenton Park boss said: ‘People are going to sit up and take notice that the bubble hasn’t burst and we keep going.’
