One week, three new signings for Coventry City as Roy O’Donovan, a one-time Sky Blues trainee, moves to the Ricoh Arena on a three-year contract at the end of his Sunderland contract.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd said: ‘As soon as I arrived, I saw that we needed competition for places in attack and Roy is chomping at the bit to be a success here.

‘His opportunities at Sunderland were restricted but there is no doubting he can mark his mark on the Championship.

‘He follows Gary McSheffrey by returning to club he was at during his youth, and we’re steadily building the foundation of a strong, driven squad.’

Since moving to Sunderland from Cork City in 2006, O’Donovan has been loaned out on four occasions, most recently to Hartlepool for whom he scored 9 times in 15 games last season, including a double strike against Boothroyd’s Colchester.
