Andy Thorn, having for so long defended his Coventry City players as they struggle at the foot of the table, let rip after Saturday’s defeat at Portsmouth.

Two comic-cuts goals gave the home side all three points with the hard work done by the Sky Blues getting back into the game thanks to Lukas Jutkiewicz’s equaliser all for nothing.

Thorn’s side now lie seven points adrift of safety and bottom of the Championship after an awayday display that is becoming depressingly all too familiar to fans.

‘You can’t defend the way we are defending at the moment,’ was the manager’s verdict.

‘We just keep giving ourselves mountains to climb and the two goals were a disgrace.

‘They’re the sort of goals you see in Under-11 football, so I’m not too happy about our defending.

‘I thought it was atrocious all afternoon. The first one was like something out of the circus. It was just a joke.’

For the sake of his own position Thorn may need to make some big changes (within the constraints of a smallish squad) if his and City’s time is not to run out.
