Coventry City, having agreed personal terms with Steven Pressley on Thursday, have begun talks with Falkirk over releasing the 39-year-old from his contract in order to become the next manager of the Sky Blues.
Development director Steve Waggott said: ‘We’ve held very positive talks with Steven Pressley and Falkirk today (Thursday) and they are progressing well. We will continue working on the deal in order to reach a conclusion that is good for all parties.’
Having identified Pressley as their man it seems the Sky Blues are willing to pay compensation for their number one choice rather than opt for a manager currently out of work.
‘parallel’
In itself that is a positive move (whether Pressley is a success in the job or not) but it does show the parallel tracks that the football club is currently running on.
On the one hand City have run the football side of things in a more professional manner this season. Signing players, doing deals and looking to bring success by appointing young, hungry managers for whom, in Pressley’s case they are willing to pay money for.
These longer-term plans, however, are all being put in place at the same time as the club themselves are issuing dire warnings about insolvency and their very existence.
