After all the wrangles, all of the protests and all of the heartache, Coventry City supporters finally have something to cheer after Tuesday evening’s Football League Trophy semi-final victory against Wycombe Wanderers.

For one night only, all of the differences were put aside, the league table forgotten about and any doubts about the competition itself moved to the back of the mind.

The Ricoh Arena crowd played a huge part as the Sky Blues, boosted by Stuart Beavon’s early strike and George Thomas’s excellent finish, withstood a Wycombe fightback led by substitute Bayo Akinfenwa who halved the deficit just after the break and gave the crowd a familiar sinking feeling.

For once, just for once however, it was not to be for the opposition and a City side containing a host of academy graduates stood firm to give some reward to supporters near and far and also some of those players themselves who have gone through a difficult season on the pitch.

Play Up Sky Blues!
