Coventry City romped to victory against Hartlepool United on Saturday afternoon as 5 second-half goals saw them jump up the League One table.

Bottom club Hartlepool fought hard for new manager John Hughes in the opening 45 minutes but the Sky Blues, pleasingly, justified their favourites tag for this match in some style.

Carl Baker netted twice with David McGoldrick, Franck Moussa and Adam Barton also on the scoresheet.

Hughes was understandably concerned by the nature of the defeat, after a bright opening by his side.

“Two things I’m disappointed about – our heads went down when we conceded and of course the result,” said the Scot.

“One goes in and we have something. First 30 minutes we had the excitement of a new manager, a lot of it off the cuff by design.

“Then they got their foot on the ball and came right into it by design. They got one, our heads went and confidence went and they won convincingly – it’s a great disappointment.”
