As Coventry City fell to another defeat in League One on Saturday, there was little cheer to be found elsewhere in the local area.

That was notably the case at Leamington FC where the Brakes, Southern League Premier leaders going into the weekend, were beaten 6-0 at home by Slough Town to drop down to third place in the table.

Leamington did get back to winning ways on Tuesday evening, beating local rivals Stratford Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup quarter-final.

Stratford came into that game on the back of a league defeat themselves having lost 3-1 at Frome Town on Saturday.

Nuneaton Town’s long unbeaten run came to an end with a bump at Kidderminster Harriers in the National League North, John Eustace’s promotion-chasing Harriers running out 4-0 winners.

The weather put paid to Rugby Town’s trip to Northwich Victoria for a relegation battle in the Northern Premier League First Division South but there was cheer for Bedworth United as they gained a last-gasp home win against Leek Town.

No doubt about the big game locally this weekend as Nuneaton host York City in the Third Round of the FA Trophy, reduced prices (£10 for adults) are in operation at the Coombe Abbey Arena for this game.

Stratford host Cirencester and Coventry United are also at home, against Heanor Town. United were 3-1 winners over Long Eaton United in the Midland Football League on Saturday while Coventry Sphinx` trip to leaders Alvechurch was postponed.
