After the big freeze, the big thaw left a number of local clubs still without a game at the weekend as waterlogged pitches accounted for a host of postponed matches.

Leamington’s home fixture against Chorley was one such casualty and the Brakes will now turn their attention to this Saturday’s big game against Nuneaton Town who did play at the weekend, drawing 2-2 with the National League North’s bottom club North Ferriby.

Bedworth United and Stratford United both saw their matches called off but both will hope for better this coming weekend when they are both scheduled to be at home, as are Coventry Sphinx and Coventry United in the Midland League Premier division.

Sphinx have had excellent off-field news in recent weeks after securing their future at Sphinx Drive with a new 25-year lease signed with Rolls Royce for the ground.

A major upgrade to the facility is now set to take place and chairman Dannie Cahill said: ‘With us being in existence for 72 years, we are proud that the club will still be around to celebrate its centenary.’
