Gregor Rioch has been appointed as the new Coventry City Academy boss. The 32-year-old former player was previously an academy coach at Manchester City.

‘Gregor is highly qualified and I am confident he can take Coventry’s academy forward,’ said Iain Dowie.

‘He has held his UEFA A licence for 10 years and has experience of coaching at both academy and senior level.’

Dowie meanwhile is delighted to see Stuart Giddings back in action and playing his part in the Sky Blues’ pre-season build-up.

‘Stuart Giddings was back in there and that was probably the most crosses we’ve got in in a long time,’ he said after the full-back impressed and scored against Shrewsbury on Wednesday.

Former loanee Rohan Ricketts has signed a two-year deal with Barnsley while Graham Barrett has finally made his return to action with Falkirk after suffering horrendous injury problems since leaving the Sky Blues.

David Thompson is wanted by five Championship clubs after the expiry of his Bolton contract while Patrick Suffo is on trial with Crewe Alexandra.
