Coventry City will be back in a reserve team league next season.

The Sky Blues’ second-string will take part in the central division of the Pontins League alongside Leicester City, Walsall, Nottingham Forest, Stoke City, Shrewsbury Town, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Port Vale, Oldham Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Bradford City.

-Midfielder Michael Doyle is hopeful that the much-talked about takeover of the club goes ahead.

‘Like everyone else, I hope the takeover happens to enable the manager to bring in some quality and experienced players to take us to the next level,’ he said.

‘The players get just as excited as the fans do when the club signs new players, especially if they are recognised names.

‘We have got a fantastic stadium and although we only averaged something like 20,000 last year, I really feel there is another 5-6,000 to come back.’

-Former players in the news include Jairo Martinez. The one-time Sky Blues striker played for Honduras in their surprise win over Mexico at the Concacaf Gold Cup last Sunday.

Ex-team-mate Ivan Guerrero, now with Chicago Fire, was also named in the Honduras squad for the tournament.

-Colin Hendry has been appointed the new manager of Clyde while Colchester have granted assistant manager Mick Harford permission to speak to QPR about joining the Loftus Road backroom team.
