West Brom all but gained automatic promotion to the Premier League on Monday after their 1-1 draw with Southampton sent them three points clear of Hull City with a goal difference of +31 against the Tigers +19.

Few would disagree that the Baggies have played some superb football at times this season and the attacking ethos of manager Tony Mowbray deserved its reward.

Stoke City will join them in the top-flight if they get a point against Leicester on Sunday.

The Potters are certainly a contrast to West Brom but football comes in all styles and Tony Pulis has built up a formidable squad with excellent use of the loan system.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: ‘I was at this club when we had to beat Reading to stay up. That was real pressure.

‘This is good pressure. Fighting to be in the Premier League is better than having to fight to stay up.’

Hull have an outside chance of finishing second if they win at Ipswich and Stoke lose.

Relegation candidates last season, Phil Brown has worked wonders at the KC Stadium where his side have lost just three times all season.
