Coventry City’s recent upturn in fortunes was subject to its toughest test on Saturday afternoon when Mark Robins and his side travelled to Wiltshire to face a Swindon Town team riding high in League One on the back of promotion last season.
The Sky Blues made the journey in good spirits following back-to-back wins against AFC Bournemouth and York City with clean sheets in both games.
Home boss Paulo Di Canio had talked up City before the game but his flattery was dismissed by Robins, well aware of the task facing his side.
Richard Wood recovered from a blow to the face and fears of a fractured cheekbone to take his place in the centre of defence alongside Nathan Cameron.
Swindon handed a first start to Tottenham loanee John Bostock, playing behind striker Paul Benson but it was an in-form forward on the other side who made the difference in the first 45 minutes as David McGoldrick scored twice to give the visitors a clear advantage at the break.
Their hopes of a notable away win were undone, however, as late goals from Roberts and Sky Blues fan Collins earned Swindon a draw which manager Di Canio felt was the least they deserved.
“I’m very happy with the reaction but we dominated the game,” he told BBC Radio Wiltshire while Robins could not hide his anger when speaking to BBC CWR.
“I can’t help be disappointed because there’s so much more to give from the players, and we just don’t sustain it.”
