Coventry City dispelled some of the doom and gloom surrounding the club and found a potential new star when beating promotion-chasing Middlesbrough at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday afternoon.
While Hermann Hreidarsson slotted seamlessly into the Sky Blues defence it was his fellow new signing Alex Nimely who stole the show.
The Manchester City loanee linked up well with Clive Platt, showed a refreshing directness with the ball at his feet and good awareness to play in Gary McSheffrey for the first goal and David Bell to cross for City’s third, an own goal.
For once Andy Thorn’s side enjoyed the rub of the green as the key decisions of the game went their way. Middlesbrough were reduced to ten men after going a goal behind and the assistant referee judged Nimely’s header to have crossed the line for the key second goal of the game.
But City deserved their luck and their win, coming out after the break and making full use of their extra man and looking far more threatening in front of goal while retaining the solidity that they have shown at the back for much of the season.
