Coventry City were well worth their victory over Barnsley on Saturday afternoon with two late goals putting a real gloss on an excellent display.

The Tykes struggled to cope with City’s power and were always chasing the game after Gary McSheffrey’s lovely early strike.

Home fans saw a host of chances missed and thus had to endure some nervy second half moments but were sent on their way in high spirits after subs Carl Baker and Jordan Clark wrapped things up.

Speaking to BBC CWR afterwards boss Aidy Boothroyd praised his side but warned that the hard work starts again after a couple of days off if City are to stay in the top six.

He added, in his post-match press call: “I thought we deserved the win overall. Sometimes when substitutes go on it doesn’t work all the time but today it worked perfectly.

“It was my decision in the end but they were suggestions from (coaches) Martyn Pert and Steve Harrison – one Carl Baker and one Jordan Clarke – so well done to them.”
