Coventry City were worthy winners at Colchester on Tuesday night.
The Sky Blues, unchanged from Saturday’s thumping of Hartlepool, were two goals to the good at the break as Franck Moussa scored for a second successive game and William Edjenguele added a second.
Colchester threw on former City striker Clinton Morrison at half-time and gained a foothold in the match with twenty minutes left as Eastman halved the deficit.
David McGoldrick wrapped things up, though, scoring for the sixth successive away game as Mark Robins’ men made it five wins out of six in all competitions and leapfrogged Colchester in the League One table in the process.
While happy with his side’s display and unhappy with the decision to allow City’s second goal, U’s boss Joe Dunne admitted after the game: “In the end, class was the difference and (David) McGoldrick is an excellent player at this level.”
Robins, meanwhile, praised both his side and the 400+ City fans who made the long midweek journey just days after the trek to the North-East.
“The away support has seen how well we can play. Now we want the home support to see that as well,” he told the official CCFC website.
