The distractions that have kept up the spirits of Coventry City supporters throughout the 2013/14 campaign; Callum Wilson’s goals, his partnership with Leon Clarke, Steven Pressley’s impressive management, large away followings and an FA Cup tie against Arsenal have managed to distract attention away from the issue that still dominates everything to do with the Sky Blues.
Not that fans have been oblivious to the ongoing problems but there comes a point when you become immune to bad news (or no news at all) and the displays of Pressley’s team with more than its fair share of home-grown players has been a welcome diversion.
Now, however, that is largely over for the season (lasting longer than many felt it would) with City out of the cup competitions and out of reach of what would have been an unlikely play-off place.
‘Future’
Wilson’s return should see off any thoughts of relegation but this week has seen the future of the club and specifically its former and future homes come back into focus.
With ACL appointing a new chairman and the Ricoh Arena being used semi-regularly again for football the spotlight is back on the club and their plans for a new stadium. To that end there has been a meeting of the new forum designed to feed back fans’ wishes and an admission that a capacity of 15,000 and not 12,000 is now desirable.
Neither side can fully move on until the court case between the two is heard but, without those distractions, Sixfields is a cold, forlorn place to call home for the foreseeable future.
