Two Coventry kids have been at the centre of the biggest story in football this weekend with Sky presenter Richard Keys being disciplined for his ‘off-air’ comments about female assistant referee Sian Massey.

Having begun officiating at the age of 16, progressing through the ranks to her current position in the Premier League, Massey is exactly the kind of person the game needs at all levels, dedicated and professional, destined to make some mistakes of course but without whom there would be no matches.

Keys on the other hand, who has previous in terms of making unguarded comments about those within the game from which he has made a considerable living over the past 20 years, would scarcely be missed should he follow Andy Gray out of the exit door.

It would be interesting to test Keys on the offside rule with which he and Gray mocked Massey ahead of the Wolves versus Liverpool game on Saturday.

Like most football fans (the author of this piece included), it is doubtful whether he could even begin to explain it as well as Massey or her colleagues.

Being a Sky Blues fan doesn’t excuse his idiocy!
