Coventry City Under-18’s were defeated 1-0 at Sheffield United on Wednesday evening in their national play-off final.

Vital Coventry had a man at the game who praised the youngsters efforts although they struggled to create genuine chances against the Blades.

It was good to see the players get their opportunity to play at a big stadium, something that isn’t always afforded to them at their own club, due to the issues around using the Ricoh, and also to see them given the chance to travel up in the first-team coach.

Under 18 football isn’t meant to be about winning trophies, although City will be disappointed to have got so far and then lost, and a bright future looks to lay ahead for at least a couple of this present squad given the clear pathway that exists from there to the first team.

That was shown on Wednesday evening with the presence of Chris Camwell in the side, just a week or so after making his senior debut in the final game of the season at Scunthorpe.
