Coventry City will step up their summer transfer activity next week after netting a £3m profit on the sale of skipper Scott Dann to Birmingham to add to their existing transfer pot.

Sheffield Wednesday central defender Richard Wood is being linked with a move to replace Dann.

He currently has a year left on his Owls contract while Norwich City midfielder Sammy Clingan is a £1m target, with Robbie Simpson possibly joining the Canaries in exchange.

Wood was strongly linked with City a year ago, even going so far as to hand in a transfer request at Hillsborough, manager Brian Laws telling his club’s website at the time: “I want to build a team around Woody and he is very much in my plans as much as anybody else in the squad.

“We could sell any number of players, but we are not selling our best young players at this present time.”

Relegation at Carrow Road meanwhile has seen Clingan tipped for the exit door since the end of the season.
