Coventry City are all but safe in the Championship and are staying up in style rather than limping over the line as in previous seasons after a superb 3-0 away win over Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

Andy Thorn strengthened his claims to become the club’s next permanent manager by inspiring yet another awesome attackiing display away from home.

Two Marlon King penalties and a Gary McSheffrey strike mean the Sky Blues are now 12 points clear of Scunthorpe in the final relegation place, with a vastly superior goal difference and only five games left of the season.

“Everybody was fantastic,” said Thorn afterwards.

“We’ve had four away games out of five now and we’ve acquitted ourselves really well. It’s time to go home and put a show on for our fans now.”
