Coventry City produced their most emphatic victory of the season to ease past York City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday night.

The half-time deadlock was broken by the in-form David McGoldrick before his strike partner Callum Ball made the game safe.

An own goal by Fyfield (although McGoldrick will claim it) and Chris Hussey’s fourth added a pleasing gloss to the scoreline while manager Mark Robins will surely be pleased with another clean sheet from his improving charges.

A tough away league game at Swindon Town follows on Saturday but long-suffering City fans may allow themselves some thoughts of Wembley after this win.

Robins gave his highest praise yet to the performance when speaking after the game.

He said: “This was a big test for us because we knew what to expect – they’re a side with a lot of pace going forward so we had to work hard to get control.

“We closed them down, moved the ball really well and created opportunities and we took them really well.”
