Having turned in his best performance for some time in a Sky Blue shirt against Birmingham City on Saturday, Carl Baker will now miss the majority of the relegation run-in.

He tore a hamstring when setting up Gary McSheffrey’s goal against Blues with a dribble and cross that reminded fans of his early days at the club.

‘It is a massive blow,’ said boss Andy Thorn.

With the Sky Blues now only one place off the foot of the Championship as a resurgent Doncaster Rovers launch their survival bid, defender Jordan Clarke has backed City to avoid the drop.

He is looking for a repeat of the last ten games of last season when Andy Thorn took over from Aidy Boothroyd and lifted the mood around the club by coaxing some impressive attacking displays from his side.

‘We are looking to do exactly the same this year,’ said Clarke.

And Gael Bigirimana is looking to play a part in that survival fight after the boost of being named Apprentice of the Year at the Football League Awards.

Academy boss Gregor Rioch believes the midfielder is ready to make an impact at first-team level once again after some impressive performances back at youth level.
