Clinton Morrison’s late equaliser for Coventry City prevented a third straight defeat on Saturday as Derby County were pegged back at the Ricoh Arena.

Good work from Michael Mifsud set up the goal, which capped a good ending to the game from the Sky Blues, who never gave up on the chase for a goal.

That spirit pleased boss Chris Coleman, who said afterwards: ‘The way we kept going over the course of the 90 minutes was very pleasing.

‘We kept pushing and asking questions.

‘At points in the second half we were pushing so hard that they hit us on the counter attack a couple of times and could have finished it.’

So a positive end to a topsy-turvy week for City, after an excellent display at Wolves and a horror show against Burnley.

‘I was happy with the reaction of my players after Tuesday’s home defeat to Burnley,’ added Coleman.

‘I wanted a response and that’s what I got.

‘There were no shrinking violets out there. The players wanted the ball and kept going to get the ball.’

Last Saturday at Molineux it was the Coventry manager who vented his wrath at the officials, this week it was Paul Jewell’s turn.

He harangued the men in charge after the game before blasting at the press conference: ‘The linesman has had a decision to make – an easy decision – and he has given them a throw when it shouldn’t have been their throw and they have scored from it.

‘Another time he gave them a goal-kick when we should have had a corner and then Gary Teale is three yards offside and he keeps his flag down.

‘I have to be careful what I say. He was consistent, I’ll give him that.

‘If I am wrong (about the throw) I will ring the linesman up and tell him that I am sorry.’
