Coventry City gained their first pre-season win on UK soil with a narrow success against Northampton Town on Wednesday night.

James McPake invoked memories of his goal against Leicester last season with an early strike which augurs well for the Sky Blues’ set-piece opportunities under Aidy Boothroyd.

The new boss will have been pleased once again to see his side keep a clean sheet but will be hoping that Freddy Eastwood, Gary McSheffrey and Roy O’Donovan are keeping their goals saved up for the big Championship kick-off.

Marcus Hall played a full 90 minutes against his former club as he continues to look for a Northampton contract.

  • Close game. Nice to see you fans and their reception to Marcus Hall at the start and both Liam Davis and Kevin Thornton when they were substituted, good to see you remembered them! I think Cov have a good season ahead of them!
