Sky Blues Come Home With Six-Point Haul

|

A hugely impressive performance at Bradford City on Tuesday evening saw Coventry City secure a second win on the road in four days to add to Saturday’s last-gasp triumph at Southend United.

Goals from Jordy Hiwula and Jodi Jones secured the seaside success at Roots Hall before early strikes from Jonson Clarke-Harris and Conor Chaplin set the Sky Blues up for victory at Valley Parade, Hiwula again and Tom Bayliss sealing a 4-2 triumph.

The maximum six-point haul means Mark Robins’ side have won four league matches in a row to establish themselves in the top-half of the division and continue the upward progression of the past year to a point where thoughts are starting to turn to a possible return to the Championship.

Whether that materialises or not  the fact that it is even being talked about is a startling achievement and City have reached that rare (and usually temporary given the nature of the game) state where the vast majority have complete faith in the manager, his recruitment, selections and tactics.

All four of his summer striker signings (Clarke-Harris joining permanently after his loan spell last season) have scored in these last four matches, allaying any fears that the loss of Marc McNulty would affect the side, and the options available on the substitute’s bench show the gradual improvement of the squad through three transfer windows.

Doncaster Rovers will test the winning run at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday afternoon but confidence must be flowing the veins of City’s players at this moment in time.

The club’s academy youngsters secured an excellent FA Youth Cup win at Burton Albion on Friday while the FA Cup First Round threw up a local derby at Walsall to be played on the weekend of 9/10/11 November.
