Coventry City`s matches against the top six this season were generally close affairs, aside from their final-day hammering at the hands of promoted Southampton.

Champions Reading came to the Ricoh Arena in late September and only escaped with a point thanks to Lukas Jutkiewicz`s missed penalty in stoppage time. The Royals comfortably won the return at the Madejski in February thanks to two first-half goals.

The Saints roared into a two-goal lead when they came to Coventry at the start of November but were pegged back by a spirited City fightback before running out 4-2 victors.

Against the play-off contenders the Sky Blues led for much of the game at home to West Ham and were on level terms for the majority of the return fixture. Both times however the Hammers gained an all-important winning goal.

Birmingham also edged out Andy Thorn`s men at St Andrew`s in August before Marlon King earned them a draw at the Ricoh.

Games against Blackpool meanwhile provided double heartbreak for long-suffering Coventry fans with the Tangerines netting an injury-time equaliser on their visit to CV6 and two late goals to win on City`s trip to the seaside.

In contrast the Sky Blues came from behind on three separate occasions to take two points off Cardiff City.

Games played 12, points 5,points per game 0.42.
