The next manager to patrol the opposition dugout at Sixfields when his Port Vale side face Coventry City on Sunday will be the man who led the Sky Blues into the Ricoh Arena back in 2005.

Micky Adams continues to navigate the choopy waters of football management, never finding himself out of work for long after nearly two decades of toil since taking over as Fulham boss in 1996.

His record as Coventry City boss improves with each passing year as his successors struggle to turn around the Sky Blues supertanker that was arguably already careering out of control when Adams took over from Peter Reid in January 2005. His first few months in charge coincided with the glorious final game at Highfield Road before he guided the club to an 8th place finish in the Championship in his only full season and the first at the Ricoh Arena.

Since then there have been lows (relegation with boyhood favourites Sheffield United) and highs (promotion at Port Vale last season) but while Adams keeps ploughing on he will scarecely be able to believe that he comes back to face Coventry in a completely different stadium and location.

***Update*** Speaking to the official Port Vale website ahead of the game, Adams said: ‘I have been on record in saying that Coventry City shouldn`t be playing at Northampton. The fans have made their feelings known by staying away.’
