Season in 60 seconds for Sky Blues

Coventry City’s season was summed up by sixty seconds of their hard-fought 1-1 draw against Birmingham on Saturday.

Having worked extremely hard to not only keep themselves in a game against one of the Championship’s top teams but to take the lead through McSheffrey’s header, the Sky Blues failed to deal with a routine throw-in to the penalty area and presented Marlon King with the easiest of chances to level things up against his former club.

With Carl Baker looking far more direct and dangerous, City were always in a game of few clear-cut chances although they struggled to get Cody McDonald into the action and posed more of a threat when Clive Platt came on as a substitute.

His goal aside, King’s threat was nullified well and Blues settled for a point after being reduced to ten men towards the end, their massed ranks of fans helping to create a good atmosphere throughout a competitive clash.

Most home supporters would have settled for a point beforehand and will now wait for the afternoon’s results before beginning the task of working out the relegation permutations at the foot of the table.

Match reaction – Andy Thorn said afterwards: “I think if we had held on for longer than the two minutes we would have won the game.

“I thought we defended so well throughout the whole game and I think that was the only time we switched off.”
