An ‘ugly game’ was Mark Robins verdict on the 90 minutes at Boundary Park on Saturday but the new Coventry City manager is realistic enough to know that his side’s 1-0 victory was the only thing that mattered at the final whistle.

The Sky Blues climbed out of the relegation zone with their first league victory of the season as Cody McDonald came off the bench to net a late winner.

And Robins contented himself with three points and a clean sheet despite seeing his side fail to find their rhythm in the 4-5-1 formation that the manager had hoped would encourage ball retention.

He told the official CCFC website: ‘We needed a win as soon as we could.’
