Graham Laws has said he had no choice but to abandon Saturday’s game between Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry.

‘As well as the ball not moving freely, which is of immediate concern to the referee, the surface was starting actually moving under your feet,’ explained the official.

‘I wasn’t happy with them even running around on it.

‘With all those factors in mind, we’ve made a decision which we don’t take lightly.

‘I appreciate people pay a lot of money to go and watch a game of football.

‘But entertainment-wise, it’s got to be right for them and it’s also got to be fair.

‘I thought it was reaching the point when it was going to turn quite farcical, to be honest.’
