Coventry City travel to Preston North End this weekend for a League One fixture, pleased perhaps to be back in action after a week of off-field speculation around their leading goalscorer Leon Clarke.

They will face a PNE side who lost at Waolves last weekend but recovered to surprise Championship side Ipswich Town in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday night.

‘We just wanted to get back on track,’ manager Simon Grayson told his club’s official website after Joe Garner came off the substitutes’ bench to score a 21-minute hat-trick.

‘Put the disappointment of the weekend behind us, try and get a win straight away and now we have set ourselves up for the weekend against Coventry, which is a bigger game than tonight.

‘We would swap a result tonight for a victory at the weekend, because the league is the priority, but winning breeds success and when you win, you get that correct mentality and we wanted to get back onto it quickly.’

Coventry and Preston drew 4-4 in a thriller at Sixfields back at the beginning of the season but the Sky Blues have fared dismally at Deepdale since hostilities resumed between the two clubs in 2000, winning a League Cup tie that year but having lost eight and drawn three of the eleven league meetings.
