Port Vale head into the Boxing Day League Two clash with Coventry City in upbeat mood after taking seven points from a possible nine.

Manager Neil Aspin was pleased with his side’s display at Colchester on Saturday where the game ended 1-1.

He told the official PVFC website: ‘In the second half the players did everything that I asked of them, dominating the game against a good side, and we fully deserved to get something from it.

‘They’re a very honest group and they give their all every game which is what you need when you’re in a scrap, but in the second half we showed some decent quality.’

Last season’s corresponding fixture, in League One, provided a rare moment of cheer for Sky Blues supporters as City gained their first win of the campaign at the eleventh attempt.

Marvin Sordell and Chris McCann scored the goals.
