Coventry City carried on with their pre-season preparations with a workmanlike performance behind closed doors at Vale Park against former manager Micky Adams’ Port Vale.

Gary McSheffrey scored the City winner just before half-time to build on the weekend win at Accrington.

New signing from Preston North End Adam Barton made his debut and boss Andy Thorn made nine changes at half time as the countdown to the new season gets closer.

The final friendly is at Bristol Rovers this Saturday with City hoping their trio of games against League Two sides stands them in good stead for the competitive opener at Dagenham & Redbridge in the League Cup.
