Preston North End manager Paul Simpson takes his side to face Coventry City on Saturday on the back of a run that has seen them slip to sixth in the Championship.

‘We said before the game that it had been the worst eight days of the season and now we have to make that 10,’ he said after Monday’s home defeat by Southend United.

‘I have to say I was hoping I wouldn’t feel any lower than I did after last Tuesday at Queens Park Rangers. But unfortunately I do.

‘We have been beaten by three absolute ‘worldy’ goals. But we didn’t do our jobs properly, again.

‘As a team who have any hopes of being successful you have to be professional and you have to be able to see games out. And we haven’t done that.

‘It is not all over by any stretch of the imagination. But there needs to be a massive improvement.’
