Coventry City travel to London Road on Saturday in confident mood after winning four out of their last five league games, ending relegation fears and keeping alive play-off hopes in the process.
Saturday’s opponents Peterborough United in contrast lie at the foot of the table, 10 points adrift of safety following their defeat at Swansea at the weekend, a reverse that left manager Jim Gannon saying: ‘We never showed enough technique to bother Swansea and force ourselves into the game but it is a work in progress at this club this season.’
Gannon was not in charge of Posh when they came to the Ricoh Arena in December for a game that was billed as a six-pointer at the time and which in hindsight looks to have provided a turning point in Coventry’s season.
Freddy Eastwood’s hat-trick secured a much needed three points, his final goal coming after Peterborough had fought back from two goals down to set the nerves of Sky Blues fans on edge.
Rumoured City targets Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith may feature on Saturday after a bout of sickness although as Gannon attempts to put together a squad for next season he could turn to others.
The date of City’s last game at London Road will forever be remembered, taking place as it did on 11 September 2001, when a League Cup tie between the two sides ended 2-2 and then saw a rare Sky Blues’ win on penalties.
