Seventeen years ago today saw the first ever win for Coventry City at Anfield, home of a Liverpool side that would go on to win the First Division at a canter in the 1989/90 season.

Cyrille Regis scored his first goal of the season to give John Sillett`s side a shock win and end a run of five games without a win for a Sky Blues side that had topped the table early on in the campaign.

Regis was under pressure for his place from new £800,000 signing Kevin Drinkell, who had netted three times in four games prior to the Anfield clash, including goals against Grimsby and QPR in the League Cup.

City would go on to reach the semi-finals of that competition, bowing out to Nottingham Forest over two legs.

Liverpool took their revenge with a 6-1 win at Highfield Road on the final day of the season as a poor end to the campaign saw City finish 12th in the table.
