Keith Houchen’s love affair with the FA Cup began on 26 January 1985 when the then York City striker stepped up to convert a last-minute penalty and knock the mighty Arsenal out of the competition.
He later told Jonathan Strange for the book ‘A Tenner and a Box of Kippers’: ‘It was only the second penalty I had taken for York.
‘I wouldn’t have known until the moment I took the kick where I was going to put it.’
Just over two years later, Houchen netted the only goal of a 4th Round tie at Old Trafford to really set Coventry City fans believing that they could win the cup.
