Coventry City opened the 1993/94 season away to an Arsenal side that had won both the domestic cup competitions the previous season, and who were expected to challenge for the second Premiership title.

Despite losing influential midfielder Stewart Robson in the early stages though, the Sky Blues shocked their hosts with a 3-0 win. Micky Quinn netted a first-half penalty and added two more after the break.

Robson never played for the club again, and along with fellow midfielder Lee Hurst, injured in pre-season, was badly missed.

City remained unbeaten in the league for eight matches but by October, manager Bobby Gould had resigned following a 5-1 defeat by Queens Park Rangers.
