Coventry will be one of the proud hosts of the 2012 Olympic Football tournament at the City of Coventry Stadium, renamed especially for the games.

Vital Football will be looking ahead to the competition on a regular basis over the coming year.

The current European Under-21 championships being held in Denmark will decide the continent’s qualifiers for the Olympic tournament with three teams going through alongside hosts Great Britain.

The GB team of course is likely to be made up of English players only and with three over-23’s allowed in each squad a certain David Beckham is keen to take part.

He told the BBC: ‘Decisions are still to be made but I’d love to be part of it.

‘I’m an East End lad and being English born and bred, it would be something I’d be very honoured to be part of.’

Anyone wanting to watch the games in Coventry will have a further chance to apply for Olympic tickets when a further allocation goes on sale at 0600 BST on 24 June.
