A report commisioned by The New Football Pools has named Coventry City as one of the five most underachieving teams in football since the inception of the Premier League in 1992.

Only three clubs have achieved less states the report and the Sky Blues position will be of no surprise to their loyal fans.

Although we were founder members of the Premier League (and the first ever leaders, at a time when league tables were only produced after three games), it’s been virtually downhill ever since.

No semi-final appearances in either the League or FA Cup for almost 20 years and not a sniff of the play-offs since relegation mean City fans have not enjoyed a day out to Wembley (or the Millenium Stadium) since 1987 while the chance to play in Europe for only the second time in our history looks further away than ever.

A crowd of less than 15,000 for the Burnley game in midweek looks bad on paper. Given all of the above, it’s a wonder any of us turned up at all!
