Former Coventry City forward Stern John may not get the chance to play in the Premiership after all next season with reports in the North-East suggesting he could be surplus to requirements at Sunderland.

The Trinidad & Tobago international left the Ricoh Arena in January to play a part in the Black Cats promotion but is reported to be one of three strikers who could be offered to Preston North End together with £8m in exchange for England international David Nugent.

  • Thats a hell of a lot for nugent isnt it ?? 8m plus three strikers , sunderland are being a bit silly methinks with that !

  • I think it’s £8m plus one of John, Stephen Elliott or Daryl Murphy according to what’s been in the news this morning. I agree though that Nugent is overpriced.

  • I can’t see him being a regular at Sunderland next season if he did stay although his style of play is possibly better suited to the Prem.
