Nilsson tops the vote!

The stylish Swede topped the poll on Vital Coventry ahead of Peter Ndlovu and Mo Konjic.

Nilsson played only 79 times for Coventry, in two spells, but his displays obviously left their mark, as they did at Sheffield Wednesday where he is also fondly remembered after nearly five seasons at Hillsborough which saw the Owls lift the League Cup in 1991.

He was also capped 116 times by Sweden, playing in the semi-finals of Euro 92 and the 1994 World Cup.

Nilsson can consider himself very unlucky to have been sacked as City manager after guiding them to the brink of the play-offs in the 2001/02 season in the wake of Gordon Strachan’s departure.

That league finish looks very good compared to the seasons that followed and the money that the club spent on big-names to fill the manager’s chair.

He is currently the manager of Gothenburg side GAIS, who he guided to promotion from the Superettan, the second tier of Swedish football in 2005.
