Coventry City’s first league away game of the season sees them visit Oakwell, home of Barnsley for the first of two trips to South Yorkshire in the space of a few days.

Recent clashes: Barnsley are one of the very few clubs in the Football League who could actually call Coventry City a ‘bogey’ team!

The Sky Blues have not lost against Barnsley since being relegated to the Championship, winning 6 and drawing 2 of their 8 encounters since 2001 and scoring 4 goals against the Tykes on no fewer than four occasions.

Talking point: The future of manager Simon Davey was on the agenda after a close shave with relegation but he will be in charge again this season after convincing owner Patrick Cryne he is the man to take the club forward.

What they’re saying: Ahead of last weekend’s opener at Sheffield Wednesday, boss Simon Davey commented: ‘It’s been the hardest pre-season I’ve had as a manager in trying to bring players into the football club.

‘A lot of clubs seem to have been waiting right until the last minute to see if they can get more money for their players, but when they realise they can’t they decide to offload them really late in the day.

‘But we’ve been quite clear and stern this season, we’ve set a price on players and haven’t wanted to go above that price. We’ve been in this division long enough to know the value of players and we’re not going to let anybody pull the wool over our eyes.’

Next up: Doncaster Rovers away for the Sky Blues, Preston at home for the Tykes.
