Aidy Boothroyd is continuing his pro-active start to life as Coventry City manager by exploring a potential link up with Portuguese giants Sporting, having spent time in Lisbon recently.

“They are playing in the Champions League and are in the top Portuguese league so there will be two or three players there that I might want to give experience,’ he said, quoted in the Coventry Telegraph.

“It is something for the future and something I wanted to do because if I can pick up a young Christiano Ronaldo for a season on loan that wouldn`t be a bad thing would it?”

Whatever the outcome of these particular explorations, Boothroyd is right to think outside the box when it comes to giving City an edge to turn them from mid-table drifters into play-off contenders.

Other Championship clubs have done that in recent years with good use of the loan market or the occasional overseas signing and anything City can do to add to the developing core of solid professionals in their squad is to be welcomed.
