Next City boss: Would Curbs boost your enthusiasm?

Tuesday’s update on the new Coventry City manager seems to be suggesting a narrowing of focus onto four solid, if unspectacular candidates.

Added to the aforementioned Steve Cotterill and Tony Mowbray are the names of Alan Curbishley and Paul Hart.

Curbishley has been out of management since leaving West Ham United but for so long an inspirational presence at Charlton Athletic while Hart, boss at Portsmouth, QPR and Crystal Palace at various stages of the season just ended is a possible casualty of the financial turmoil still swirling around at Selhurst Park.

Some eagle-eyed fans have been contacting the Telegraph to say that Alan Shearer has been milling around the Ricoh Arena while Kevin Keegan’s name has also been mentioned in despatches.

As a Newcastle United player in the first XI picked by Keegan as manager in 1992, Sky Blues chairman Ray Ranson will have seen at first hand the impact he made when returning to Tyneside.

As a season ticket seller, there probably remains no bigger name still in the English game than Keegan, despite his ever increasing time away from the dug-out but he hardly fits the bill of a manager prepared to take on Chris Coleman’s squad and staff and continuing to build slowly rather than ripping it up and starting again.
